Those people who are living in the United States who have Australian ancestry are sometimes called Australian Americans.

There are currently over 114,820 Australian Americans living in the US currently and 60,965 who were born in the US. 

The first wave of Australians immigrating to the US was in the 1850s during the California Gold Rush. Many Australians immigrated to California in search of gold. Then again in the 1890s was another wave during Australia’s economic depression.

Immigration Process to the US

Most Australian immigrants get their Green Card and become Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs) as immediate relatives of US citizens, through family sponsorship , through employment, or by claiming refugee status. The United States provides great economic opportunity for skilled workers in search of jobs, and the most likely way to obtain a Green Card is through employment in the US. Immigrant work visas include the EB-1 and EB-2 visas, and imply receipt of a Green Card soon after entry. Non-immigrant work visas are temporary, and individuals from Australia may be eligible for the H-1B, L-1, O-1, E-3 and E-1. If an immigrant comes to the US under a non-immigrant work visa and wishes to become a permanent resident, they may change their classification and apply for an immigrant work visa while in the states. E-3 Visa

This visa is specifically only for Australians looking to immigrate to the United States. The E-3 classification applies only to nationals of Australia. You must be coming to the United States solely to perform services in a specialty occupation. The specialty occupation requires theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge and the attainment of a bachelor's or higher degree in the specific specialty, or its equivalent, as a minimum for entry into the occupation in the United States.
