Hi, this is Michael Niren, immigration lawyer and founder of VisaPlace.com. The Globe and Mail this morning reported that Russian and Chinese delegates have been refused a Canadian visitor visa to attend the 65th Annual International Astronautical Conference in Canada.
Russian and Chinese Delegates Denied Visas
Now this is a really important space exploration conference that is held annually and Canada, this year, is hosting it. So, its concerning that Russian and Chinese delegates who I think are very well-known or are distinguished individuals have been refused visas.
Possible Reasons for Denied Visas
Now, it could be political, we don’t know the reasons why. Citizenship and Immigration Canada has not really disclosed the reasons and there are privacy concerns. Each time you apply for a visitor visa to attend a conference or for other reasons, the case is judged on its individual merit. So, we don’t know why these individuals were refused. Again, it could be political.
There is speculation, because, especially what’s going on with Russia, internationally, so there could be some security concerns by the government, which could be, in fact, reasonable grounds for refusal, we just don’t know. In any event, as soon as I get information or I find out some more information, if I do, I certainly will share that with you. So, thanks and have a great day.
