May 21 Update: Within 24 hours, the newest PR pathway for international students in Canada exceeded the number of applications being accepted. This week, Prime Minister Mendicino hinted at a possible plan to raise this cap. In most cases, Canadian international students have the qualifications and meet the requirements to become permanent residents. As Canada works hard to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, two new pathways for international students have been announced that lead to permanent residency. Recently Graduated International Students
The Canadian government is looking to invite 40,000 applications through this new pathway curated for graduated international students in Canada. Learn more about the requirements needed below!
Requirements
- Completed a program of study at a Canadian DLI no earlier than January 2017
- Have been granted one of the qualifying credentials (degree, diploma, certificate)
- Must be employed in Canada with a valid permit/authorization to work at the time the application is received
- CLB of at least 5 in either English or French
- Be living in Canada on valid temporary status, or be eligible for restoration of status
- Outside of Quebec
French-Speaking International Graduates
The other new pathway is specifically for French-speaking international graduates in Canada. Due to a shortage of French-speaking workers in provinces other than Quebec, there is no intake cap for this new program. See if you meet the requirements below!
Requirements
- Have completed a program of study at a Canadian designated learning institution no earlier than January 2017
- Have been granted one of the qualifying credentials
- Must be employed in Canada with a valid permit/authorization to work at the time the application is received
- NCLC of at least 5 in French
- Be living in Canada on valid temporary status, or be eligible for restoration of status
- Outside of Quebec
